Signs of the Thames

London is a city of signs. 

Here is a sign telling us that Nancy Mitford worked in that very building. But who is Nancy Mitford? Just one of the wittiest British writers of the twentieth century. That’s all.

Ian Pelman invited me to a restaurant. I had to go to the bathroom. 

I saw this sign as I washed my hands. Shouldn’t hot water be very hot?

This must be a lawyers’ restaurant. 

We saw a lady selling chestnuts. 

The sign was alluring. 

But these were the bags she was referring to. 

I chanced upon the Mustard Cafe. 

I decided that I had had enough of mustard in coffee houses. 

Did you know that London has a “Half Moon Street”? Just saying.
